Search Engine Optimization Starter Guideline

If you are new to online business, you have probably heard of Search Engine Optimization, but you do not know what it means and how it can help your website. SEO is an acronym for search engine optimization. It covers all the activities done on a website to boosts it’s ranking in search engine results. It has many features including the keywords used and how the website is linked to other sites on the internet. To put it simply, it is an act of structuring a site in a manner that allows search engines to understand it better. To know how SEO works, you need a starter guideline.

PART I: Keyword Optimization

#1 Choosing the Right Keywords: The first step is to choose your keywords or key phrases for your web pages. When users look for information, they use the keywords. Internet marketers and site owners should research to see the keywords that are useful, relevant, and proper to their sites. The keywords have to be incorporated into the content and title to optimize the pages. Avoid keyword stuffing as much as possible since it is considered as spamming. If you do keyword stuffing, your website will be banned or penalized.

How to Create the Right Keywords:

Describe the content and purpose of your site clearly

Allow the website to appear on the first page on the search results as possible.

Relevant and useful

Reminders:

The choice of keywords is not the only factor. You should also consider how well you position those keywords in your page, as well as the number of external pages that are linked to you. While the choice of keywords is not the only factor, choosing the wrong keywords can drop your entire strategy. Therefore, the right keywords and positioning should go hand in hand.

#2 Work on Your Homepage: Write down the phrases and words that best describe your site. One-word key phrases are the top choice today. That is why experts encourage you to develop a list of potential key phrases. First thing first, you should check your chosen keyphrases using Google Keyword Suggest or Overture’s Search Term Suggestion Tool. As soon as you type the selected keyphrases, you will be able to see how many people use the terms to search for something. Using the tools will help you validate the popular and in-demand keyphrases for your page.

How to Create the Right Keyphrase:

It should describe the content and the topic of your page

It should be a popular search term

After performing the Google search, it should generate a small number of results.

If the key phrase is “Pasta Italian Restaurant,” this will become your primary keyphrase. To get better results and to make your page relevant, you can use the second keyphrase. If you have a restaurant in Los Angeles, you may consider “Los Angeles” a second keyphrase. As soon as you have chosen the keyphrases designed for your homepage, you may do the same thing for the other pages. After this, you will optimize your pages heavily.

PART II: Web Page Optimization

After choosing your keyphrases, the next move is to optimize your page for them. Optimizing one’s page is done by positioning these keywords in a smart and strategic location on your page.

To optimize your page, create a descriptive title for your home page. The title of your page is important because it is what displays and determines the effect of the search engines. Therefore, it should include your keyphrases. Keep in mind that the description of your business should be detailed and has the ability to entice the readers to read it. If your business is big and popular, you do not need to start your page title with the company name, instead, start with the words used by the search engine users. There are two concepts here the keyphrase prominence and keyword proximity. For keyword prominence, put your main keyphrase at the beginning of your page title. For keyword proximity, keep your keyphrase together. As for the second keyphrase, put them somewhere else in the title and make the title short, at least 8 words.

Keyphrases in your Keyword Meta Tag: Unlike before, search engines ignore the importance of Meta Tags. In case search engines decide to use them again in the future, you should place your main keywords and secondary keywords in the Keyword Meta Tag.

Keyphrases in your Description Meta Tag: Since Description Meta Tag is still important, some search engines use them to illustrate the results link.

Reminders:

Include your main and secondary keyphrases in your Description, Meta Tag.

Make your description title concise, professional, and detailed.

Avoid using hype.

Make it short, at least 25 words but not more than that.

Your description should not sound like a collection of keywords.

Keywords in the body of your page:

The function of your keyword is to help the search engine determine your topic. Therefore, it is important to use them heavily yet reasonably on your page. Your keyphrases should be used several times, and position them at the top of the page as much as possible. In the first two paragraphs of your page, place the keyphrases between H1, H2 or H3.

Reminders:

You should bold your keyphrases at least once.

To increase keyphrase density, repeat them often at least 5 to 10 times. But it should not sound awkward.

Part III: Off-Site Factors

After selecting the right keyphrases and optimizing them to your pages, you need to link them from the best quality sites and directories. These sites or links should be related to your topic. The search engines “crawl” the website looking for links to your page. They will interpret every link as a vote. If you have more links or votes coming from the quality sites, the better position you will be because it will achieve a higher rank in the search results pages.

Search Engine Optimization can make a huge difference to your website and the profit you make from it. This is an important ingredient for your online income, and you cannot ignore it. Just understand that success does not come overnight. Therefore, you have to work hard until you see the results.
